In Korea, women gave their golds to their govt to sell so they could come out of their economic difficulty- Buhari's economic adviser

Special Adviser to President Buhari on Economic matters, Adeyemi Dipeolu, in an interview with Channels TV, says that for Nigeria to come out from its current economic recession, all hands must be on deck.

According to Dipeolu, when Korea faced economic recession in 1997/98, he saw pictures where the women in the country came out to give their gold to their government to sell so they could generate money and come out of their economic difficulties.

"We have to realize that economics is not Physics. You have to think flexibly around economics. You have to realize that certain policies may not give you the desired effects immediately. There may be time lag. There may be geographical differences. People character may differ. When Korea faced economic crisis in 1997/98, I saw pictures of women in thousands, coming out and giving their golds to their country so it can be sold so they can get out of this difficulty. So there are social dimensions to tackling problems. I think it is important to realize that all hands have to be on deck"he said
Dipeolu also refuted claims that there is lack of coordination between the economic team of the government
"It s not true that the economic team is not coordinated. The economic management team meets every week. Sometimes twice a week. Sometimes late at night deliberating and sharing views but as with all aspects, there are always interfaces that need to be properly managed. So the Central Bank has its own role, statutory. There is coordination but there are sometimes tension between policies because you have different policy objectives but you have to manage them to get the best balance and that is what the team meets regularly to debate and argue and say why don't we do it this way. So there is a lot of ongoing work and I think by and large, things will be resolved eventually"he said

Photo: Nigerian man & his Cambodian girlfriend arrested on charges of extortion and blackmail

A Nigerian man and his Cambodian girlfriend were arrested on Thursday, September 8th and charged by the Phnom Penh Municipal Court last Saturday, with extorting $300 from a Cambodian woman.

According to Keo Sitha, a police officer in the technology crimes department in the Interior Ministry, 37-year-old Uchechukwu Vincent and 27-year-old Sarim Kunthea demanded payment from woman in return for not revealing alleged sexual relationship with a another Nigerian man to the woman’s husband.

The pair lived in a house in Sansom Kosal 5 village, Boeung Tumpon commune, in Phnom Penh’s Chamkarmon district. Mr. Sitha added that they had been charged with “threat accompanied by extortion” under article 232 of the Criminal Code.

"They were arrested by our police while they came to get the $300 at a Wing transfer shop in Chom Chao commune,” he said.

According to the 28-year-old woman’s complaint, she dated a Nigerian man in 2014, but the two later separated, and in 2015, she married a Cambodian man. But earlier this month, Mr. Vincent and Ms. Kunthea – friends of the woman’s Nigerian ex-boyfriend – threatened to tell her current husband about the affair, assuming it would somehow offend the woman’s current husband.

In a series of phone calls, they demanded $300 in exchange for hiding the information. The woman called the police and prepared the money transfer to apprehend the pair.

Hip-hop star Drake (real name: Aubrey Graham) pulled a fast one on all of us last summer and dropped $2.85 million on the beautiful estate next door to his already expansive Hidden Hills, CA, real estate compound. Drake purchased the larger property, a seven-bedroom, nine-bathroom sprawling mansion, back in 2012 for $7.7 million. But he must have decided that scooping up the house next door was a wise business decision — or he needed a massive new guesthouse

EFCC recovers N46bn from oil marketers

EFCC has reportedly recovered N46 billion from oil marketers in a probe of massive fraud in oil lifting in the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation NNPC.

According to The Nation, the marketers whose names are yet to be disclosed because the investigation is yet to be concluded, lifted products without paying a dime to the defunct Petroleum Products and Marketing Company (PPMC), a subsidiary of the NNPC now known as the National Petroleum Marketing Company(NPMC).

A top source in EFCC, who spoke in confidence said“When we conducted our investigation, we discovered that the affected marketers sourced products from NNPC through PPMC without paying for them. In some instances, these marketers got two or three supplies and paid for one.

Through connivance, they cooked the books. We discovered that products worth about N100billion were lifted and unpaid for by marketers leading to the invitation and interaction with some of them. So far, we have been able to recover N46billion out of the N100billion which the nation had purportedly lost.”

The source alleged some forces within and outside NNPC and PPMC behind the syndicate almost frustrated the EFCC team investigating the “fraud”.

“The cartel wielded enormous influence in the sector and it almost frustrated the investigation and the recovery. As a matter of fact, some forces in NNPC and PPMC did not want us to go this far"he said
